Journalist Alexandra Borges, TVI, promoted, on May 19, in the auditorium of the Group of Schools Leite, two information sessions and fundraising for the NGO "Children of the Heart", whose main objective is the rescue and protection of child slaves in Ghana. The sessions took place at 14.30 and at 15.30 and, despite being a Sunday, more than two hundred people attended the school to become aware and to show solidarity with the drama of those children.
The idea of this project came to support the School Leite at the hands of Professor Claudia Proenca that after seeing the report said, mobilized students and teachers to join this cause. This fact was also noted by the school principal, teacher Irene Guimarães, which highlighted the fact that the principle of solidarity be enrolled in the School Educational project and this action is fully justified in all its aspects. At the beginning of the sessions, was also read the biography of the journalist, has vast experience with personal and professional, to join it one further, "I am also a mother of two and I value very particular drama of these children."
In their interventions, journalist Alexandra Borges reported the dramatic situation he faced in Ghana to do a story that had been suggested by an article published in an international journal reference. Children are bought in southern Ghana by traffickers that lead then to the area of Lake Volta, where they are enslaved by unscrupulous fishermen who exploit and abuse. The action of the NGO is to rescue these children, placing them after one of the three orphanages that the organization has and where they are already protected 93 children. A means of fundraising is the sale of the book and the CD "SONS OF HEART" as well as other promotional material. The journalist also rebelled vehemently against a sort of "pact of silence" surrounding this reality and that it is urgent to break all possible ways, including sending letters and messages to the government of Ghana and other international bodies.
Broadly speaking, the Association "Children of the Heart" is an IPSS / NGO and has as main goal, through actions developed in Portugal and in developing countries, continue purposes of social action, civic and educational addressing the complaint and awareness of the violation of human rights and children's rights among the public in general and children and young people in particular, to promote balanced growth, structured, integrated and socially responsible. Project: a child called Seraphim.
Following the lecture, Professor Claudia Proenca instilled a new dimension to your project. "So when the journalist is to Ghana, get authorization and weather conditions and terrain permit, will be rescued a child who will be given the name Seraphim. I pledge, on behalf of the school, to ensure that child education and nutrition for 10 years (they are about 1000 € per year - $ 1,500). From this moment, all the money raised will be placed in an account of the purpose for this child so that rescue can proceed as soon as possible.
